Features of volleyball

Volleyball is a sport quite known and widespread all over the world as it is practiced frequently. It is a sport that is played as a team and that gives good benefits both physically and mentally. It is a sport where you can improve physical condition while working on team relations.

In this article we will tell you everything you need to know about volleyball.

What is volleyball

It is a team sport that is composed of 6 members. These two teams face on a pitch with different formations. Each team is located on one side of the court that is divided by a net on which the ball must pass from one side to another without touching it or passing underneath it.

To score points and lead such a type until victory it is necessary that the ball touches the ground of the opposite field or to go outside the lines of the court having touched it last by a player from the other team.

How to play volleyball

Let’s go writing all the features and rules of the game. For this we will divide the most important points.

Court

The court is the basics in this type of game. That’s what the field is concerned. It measures 18×9 meters and must have around a free area of at least 3 meters. It is divided into two fields by the center line on which a network is placed. The upper part of the net should be located at a height of 2.43 meters above the centerline when playing men and at a height of 2.24 meters when playing women.

In

turn, each of the two fields in which the court is divided completely is divided into two areas. On the one hand we have the attack area that is delimited by the center line and a line placed 3 meters from it. This line is called the line of attack. On the other hand, we have the defense area. This area is delimited by the attack line and the baseline of the field.

Players and their position on the playing field

As we mentioned before, on each field there must be 6 players at all times. All players except the bailer must pass through all positions on the field. That is, they must be aware of the attack and the defense. Once the serve has been played, the rest of the players can move all over the surface of the field and the free zone. It is at these times of play where there is no need for you to have to save a training.

Naturally, the better the formation and structure of players on the playing field, the better the quality of the game and the preparation for both the attack and the defense and organization of the team. During the serve players must maintain the position that has been designated by the rotation. These positions do not set any minimum distance between one player and another. Throughout a set each player can be replaced by another one time. The player who left the field can return to the game as long as it is to reinstate in the position of his substitute. Once it has been replaced, it can no longer be replaced until the next set.

The rotation in volleyball

The playing field is divided into 6 zones divided into 3 attack zones and 3 defense zones. At the beginning of the match each player must be assigned to an area where they must be at the time of the serve. As we mentioned before, once the serve has been performed, players do not have any assigned position but can be placed anywhere on the terrain within their field.

When a team does not perform the serve and makes a point (i.e. retrieves the serve) the members must rotate clockwise. In this way, all players end up passing through all positions on the field both attack and defense. For example, players can move from zone 2 to 1 and so on.

All rotations are mandatory and must always be respected during the time of the serve.

The libero

Before we mentioned a type of player who should not respect the same rules as others. It’s called the lebero. This is a purely defending player and has a number of limitations compared to the rest of the team components. In this sport, the lebero is the one that can replace any player who is in the defense area and can enter and exit to replace them as many times as necessary. However, you can never replace a player in the attack zone.

If you watch a volleyball match you can quickly recognize the book. This is because the player wears a different clothing than the rest. There can be only one freer per team on the playing field. Usually, the follower can not perform the following actions:

  • Be the captain of the team nor the captain in play
  • Take
  • Complete a hit if the ball is totally above the net. This is also called auction
  • Once the serve has been performed, it can move all over the field but it has certain restrictions in the attack zone as they are that it cannot block or make blocking attempts and if you make a finger pass to another partner he will not be able to attack if the ball is above the net.

Unlike other sports volleyball does not have a duration. The match ends when one of the two teams wins 3 sets. As you can see, this is a rather interesting sport although not as famous as other sports such as football or basketball.

I hope that with this information you can learn more about volleyball.
